The name of the law that changed the rules for health insurance in the US is the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA).

It is not and never has been officially called “Obamacare”.

But I named this blog Obamacareguide because that is the name that more people are familiar with.

When I used that name in this blog it is not meant to convey any opinion, positive or negative, about the law.

I personally support the President and I am in favor of a national system that guarantees that every American has access to affordable health care. But Barack Obama did not write the law; Congress did.

There are good parts and there are messy parts.  The mess is a function of a rather dysfunctional approach to legislation in the US, where partisan politics often dominates over common sense.  I’d like to see Congress keep all the good bits and clean up the messy parts, but I don’t think that’s possible in today’s political climate. So I think that we are just going to have to live with the mess for awhile.
